This mapping project began with an on-the-ground transect analysis of Main Street in Freeport, NY. The outcomes of the transect supported a “Community Resiliency Framework Plan” created by Health X Design in partnership with NY Rising.
Health-promoting adaptive capacity strategies can be gathered by the statistical and spatial representation of these maps. Analytical delineations of tree canopy, perceived safety, social connectedness, people presence, pedestrian and bike accessibility, lighting, emergency preparedness and response as well as access to community resource services reveal spatially the community dynamics of a city affected by climate hazards and in turn will inform future strategies for a proactive and forward thinking public health and planning response.
